Holiday Hints: Creating
We created our Holiday Hints to highlight developmentally beneficial tools for young children.
Instead of selecting less meaningful toys this holiday season - or leaving gifts from loved ones to chance - start here!
This list is simply a guide. You definitely don’t need to purchase these specific items to see the benefits. You can find similar options on Amazon, at Target, at resale shops, in family storage, etc.
Let’s talk about creating.
Your child is a creative being.
They are in a process of creative construction at all times.
That is because they are actually creatively constructing themselves, out of their own experiences.
And that is why we want to help you become more conscious and selective about those experiences.
Now, let’s talk about creating things.
Generally, we encourage you to avoid creativity kits.
Creativity kits can be limiting.
They offer your child the impression that other people come up with interesting ideas.
And other people select and gather the items needed to bring cool ideas to life.
We want your child to know that they can create for themselves, from start to finish.
Kits should not comprise the majority of your child’s creative experiences.
Yet we know that sometimes a good kit is helpful, simply because it contains just what you need to achieve something specific..
And so we tried to find some worthwhile sets and kits that allow your child to bring their own creativity.
That allow you to more easily acquire all the items your child will need for beginning cardboard construction or stitching shapes, for making potholders or handmade papers.
And some winter holiday fun!
