Weekend Wonders
It’s almost September. School has already started for some and is around the corner for others.
This is a time when some parents start to worry about preparedness for fall, and what they haven’t accomplished over the summer.
As we transition back into the school year, it’s important to remember the seemingly small things around the house that so easily engage and support your child.
Like a bowl of blueberries, a pair of tongs, and a serving dish (or a few serving dishes - for family and friends).
This experience helps a young child to find focus through work with the hands. Developmentally, it supports the refinement of fine motor skills, left-to-right sequencing, sensorial discernment, as well as qualities of agency, independence, and care for self and others.
It’s empowering for a child to know they can meet their own needs, and contribute to the well-being of others.
Summer holds many simple, sensorial joys. Celebrate those now, and aim to keep them with you year-round.
We think of these as weekend wonders, and we can’t wait to share more of them with you.
