Prepared Adult: Podcasts for Learning

Learning-centered parenting is about just that: learning.

It is not about presenting an inaccurate ideal to the world around us.

It is not about perfect relatedness.

And it’s also not about complacency.

It is about the call to step into greater light.

The illumination of more understanding, more acceptance, more fulfillment and joy.

And to grow in that light.

I spent almost fifteen years teaching on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and I know the allure of seemingly having it all together. But children challenge us. And learning became my touchstone, my practice.

I understood the children I served better because I prioritized learning.

I became skillful because I prioritized learning.

We live in a world where learning can come in so many forms. I availed myself of as many as I could: teachers, mentors, trainings, books, podcasts. And I still do.

Today, I want to highlight the opportunity and practicality of podcasts - those intentional, focused conversations that can help you grow.

Here are a few to consider as you commute, administrate your life, or take a few minutes to take a walk by yourself on a weekend (if you aren’t doing that - could you try to do that?).

The Humble Parent with Kelly Corrigan and Julie Lythcott-Haims

From the Inside Out - Attachment Theory and Mindful Parenting with Alexandra Solomon and Dan Siegel

Raising Emotional Intelligence and Resilence with Susan David and Janet Lansbury

If you are parenting under falsely positive pretenses - transacting in appearances instead of authenticity, quietly grappling with an accumulation of challenging moments with your child, or worrying in isolation - I want to encourage you to more genuinely connect, instead.

Connect with learning. Connect with individuals who help you grow.
